nostalgia crazy: prom in the early 80s
Yes, I know this is ridiculous! But it's only visible to those of you designated as family. ;)
Metalium2 put up a bunch of photos from a Judas Priest concert yesterday and that reminded me of my high school boyfriend (Robby) who oh-so-loved Judas Priest in high school.
I loved this guy. The most I could as a high schooler, anyway.
This was our junior-senior prom at the Wine Cellar at the Madonna Inn. Spring 1982.

Senior Prom - Pink Dress
When Christian told me that he and Nicole were wearing hot pink to the Prom all I could think of was wow, 80's. Then I saw her gown and then thought, wow, beautiful! Next I was amazed that my son would actually be seen and photographed in fuschia...anything, I suppose, for a lovely lady.

prom couple
This is my first "true love", Eric T. We were together less than a year, and then we broke up and went off to college. We didn't part amicably... he was cross with me for being such a depressive bore, and I was cross with him for being such a prudish party pooper.
We thought it would be funny to add some props to our prom picture. I think my facial expression is the funniest thing, though...
Haha, I doubt high school seniors could get away with having a fake gun in their prom picture these days. Maybe in Texas.
Apparently Eric T. is using Eric M.'s gun. :)

Petti Prom
The prom was about 6 weeks ago - but my friend Rochelle just sent me this photo that she snapped right before we were heading out. It was kinda coincidence that she sent the pic now, because I had just worn that same dress again to a party last night. XD

It's high school. They meet. They fall in love. They go to the prom.
My dad wears the whitest jacket ever and refuses to smile for the camera.
My mom wear a foofy dress with a bodice that looks like two shower scrubbies.
Care to guess how old she was in this photograph? Anyone?
Fifteen.

purple satin dress
i think this is my favourite dress of the lot.
the purple is so amazingly smooth and shiny and offsets the silver top quite well i think.
but mostly i like it because it is striped. as some of you may or may not know, i've a thing for stripes.
my friend sonya has a closet full of all these vintage things that are really keen. she likes to collect and sell them and really knows a lot about the clothes and the history of their design. she studies things, encyclopedically, at the Bard Graduate Center.
for her ebay listing, if you're interested.

Back view. 1800's Ball Gown.
This dress was worn by Emily Langdon Manning [nee Knight] a distant relative of my husband. She lived in Tasmania 1848-1925. The dress is now in the possession of the Hobart Museum. The lady who wore this dress must have been extremely small as the waistline was very tiny. It was very exciting on a visit to Hobart, to view this and other garments worn by my husbands relatives such a long time ago.

79 of 365 - New Dress! 300th photo!!
Wish I had the time to do my hair... I was losing light fast...
I can't tell you how excited I was to see this dress in one of the boutiques on The Drag today. It's all I could think about until lunch when I ran to go buy it! I told myself if it was over a certain amount I would pass on it but it was over and yet still I bought it. I mean come on, how many times do you walk right past something so perfect!

return of the dress
Wondering the city streets I kept noticing how Laura's dress was contrasting so starkly against the background drab city colours (buildings etc..) So I put my curiousity to the test and got her to pose against the fading wall of Castello Sforzesco and thought it had quite a pronounced impact (see my white wall walker shot earlier for similar effect) on the image..
I also like the slight irony of the face being on the dress and cropping the subjects face out this shot..
See what happens next HERE!

prom photo-sepia
I took my sister's prom pictures for her. The ones taken at the school were way too expensive, and we thought we could do something more interesting.
This one is one of the outtakes--it is almost dramatic the way their bodies are turned, and their attention is off to the side. They were looking at my helper Miss Ashley as she told them something about her dress when I took the picture. It looks like some still from a Lillian Gish silent movie to me.
It was shot on color medium format film with a Mamiya C-something TLR camera, with maybe a 115mm lens. TLR cameras are in my opinion, the sexiest cameras ever designed.
